Bangla (Bengali) script is an Eastern Indo-Aryan script family. The script is closely related to the Devanagari alphabet and is derived from the Brahmi alphabet and over time has developed to become less blocky and becoming more sinuous. The prevalent angular, conical form of the Bengali alphabet is distinct and highly rhythmic in appearance. Charles Wilkins is credited with the development of printing in the Bengali alphabet in the year 1778.
